I recommend it to everyone who wishes to parent in a way that pleases God, benefits their child(ren), and brings peace and godliness into the life of their family. I've refered to it several times already. I just finished reading the book Don't Make Me Count To Three by Ginger Plowman, and knew I had to get this supplemental "book" to use with the godly methods and wisdom I gained from reading the book. It's concise and easy to use.
I am confused as to why there are SO many reviews on spanking when this poster doesn't mention it once. That is why it is entitled "Wise Words."I find the poster to be uplifting, encouraging and helpful in pointing children in the right direction using biblical teachings.
This is quite a handy reference for those times when you need help asking the right questions. Another great product from Ginger Plowman.
In fact, studies have shown that people learn better when not in conflict. Bad behavior is NOT the only teachable moment. Above all, have fun training them.
It doesn't tell you at all HOW to discipline them. To this end the author has given questions and verses to discover the sinful behaviors and, in order that the void created by removing the sin not be filled with another sin, she gives a few verses describing the godly behavior that pleases our Heavenly Father. As opposed to many of the reviews here, this calendar style pamphlet has nothing whatsoever to do with "beating" or even spanking your kids.
Obviously this does not contain an exhaustive list of Bible verses on each topic so if you want to dig further, pull out your Strong's Concordance and do a word study together with your children on the topics where the most desired change is needed. Bearing that in mind, while you should address the matter at hand, don't forget to revist the matter from the other side when your child is not currently "in trouble." So I don't know where people come off with these off the wall remarks about abusing our children except that they desperately need the fulfilling love of Jesus in their lives.This pamphlet IS, simply, a discussion starter tool to get your children to actually think about their actions and the motives running them; to recognize the wrong actions and motives and replace them with loving caring ones.
This is designed to get your children to think outside of self and to think of how what they say and do affects others.
We are to be Christ-centered in our marriages and in our families. The difference is that we want to change our children's behavior, not temporally, but for eternity- we do that through the Gospel and this book practically teaches us how to do that using Scripture and not with the world's ideas, which are temporal. Some reviewers have stated that this book is about abusing children, that is completely false. When we deal with the heart of our children, the root and reason for their actions, then we are dealing with sin, which allows us to share the Gospel to our children. Excellent book and highly recommend it. This does not even mention spanking, rather it deals not with a child's actions, but their heart and what lies in it. Our society tells us to 'put our children first,' but that's not biblical.
